O2 at Junction 32 has donated an iPad to one of the residents at the Sycamores at South Kirby.

Junction 32  is supporting Hollybank Trust community home, The Sycamores in South Kirkby in both a fundraising and a voluntary capacity during 2013 and plan to put in a sensory garden later this year for the residents to enjoy.

During a visit from Victoria and Lynn from Junction 32 they asked residents what they would like. Chris immediately asked for an iPad! Chris, who is 27 years old, lives at The Sycamores with six other adults who also have profound and multiple needs. 

Victoria Mitchell Centre Manager said: “Junction 32 has chosen to support Hollybank Trust throughout 2013. Their residential home, Sycamores in South Kirby is local to the centre and we visited the residents to see how we could help them.

“Our plan is to create a vibrant, colourful and relaxing garden area for them to enjoy, however on our visit we met Christopher who told us that he wanted an iPad!

“We promised to do our best for him and approached our friends at O2 who are committed to supporting the local community and charities were happy to help.

Chris was presented the iPad from the O2 store on a visit to the shopping centre with his mum Pat; they then called to get a cover to protect it from Retail Phone Accessories where Maneesh was happy to donate a great cover and fit a screen protector free of charge. Both Chris and his mum were thrilled.

Sycamores manager Karen Makings said: “Chris is an avid photographer but can have difficulty with small buttons on cameras. He had a go on a borrowed iPad which is easier for him to use and creates large photos that he can see more easily.

Sycamores residents will be taking part in the Bank Holiday Weekend fundraising activities at Junction 32 shopping village. Staff from Junction 32 also plan to hold a garden party for residents, parents and staff to celebrate the opening of the new sensory garden in the summer.
